My name is Megan, I’m 26 years old, and I’m just really happy you’re here reading this. In a world where content is thrown at you on every platform imaginable, you have a lot of choices on how and what to consume. For a blog that is 10 years late to the game and is run by a girl in her 20’s who “loves to travel and bake,” it would be understandable why you wouldn’t be reading this. But, at the end of the day, we’re both here now so that’s pretty cool. Sometimes I just get the overwhelming urge to put my internal dialogue down on paper which usually means writing journal entries, but today is different! Today I am putting real words out in the real world! And you’re reading them! It’s a big day for both of us. Since you’re here, I thought I would tell you a bit about me.

About Me

I am a biomedical engineer from California who has frequent dance parties in my room by myself and live my life by the belief that homemade banana chocolate chip muffins can cure anything. In 2020 I lived in Maine helping start up the site that makes 15-minute rapid antigen COVID-19 tests. Then I moved to Arizona, Ireland (!!), and finally my current home, San Francisco. This blog began as a way for me to share my experiences living abroad with friends and family, and has since morphed into so much more.

About This Blog

In the world of ~curating content~ I am the equivalent of the toddler swimming two feet out into the pool and then immediately turning around to grab the beacon of safety that is the side wall. Over the past few years I have posted pictures from a semester abroad, obligatory sourdough posts during quarantine, and even started an Instagram account to share some things that helped me stay positive in an otherwise pretty devastating time. I always enjoy it but never commit enough to reach the mythical other end of the pool where glory and cheering parents are waiting for me. My goal for this blog is to expand on what I have started and build a platform that spreads positivity in all the ways it shows up in the world. I want to create a space that makes me happy, and by extension, can hopefully make you happy too.

So yes, that will probably include travel posts. And baking posts. Maybe I’ll get a little crazy and throw in some knitting posts too, you never know. But I also want to talk about body positivity and mental health and learning how to be comfortable spending time by yourself and how mindset is everything when creating a life you love. I’m an avid overthinker, but it makes for a pretty interesting mind to live in, and hopefully can start some pretty interesting discussions to share too. I’m the Meg behind Meg’s Miles and Smiles, and I’m just really happy you’re here.
